§ i This a set of inscribed blocks from a monument, found in Patara, Lycia, Turkey in 1993, that thanks the emperor Claudius for the ambitious road construction program of Quintus Veranius across Lycia. It is a crucial document for understanding the ancient topography of this little-known area. now under intensive investigation by Turkish scholars.
§ A1 46 CE To Tiberius Claudius, son of Drusus, Caesar Augustus Germanicus, pontifex maximus, tribunician power for the fifth time, imperator for the 11th time, father of the country, consul designate for the 4th time, savior of their nation, the Rome-loving and Caesar-loving Lycians, faithful allies who have been spared from faction, lawlessness and brigandage though his divine foresight, having recovered concord, fair justice, and the ancestral laws, since the state has been entrusted to council members chosen from among best people, from/by the undiscriminating masses, and by this they took control of the homeland by him through Quintus Veranius, legatus propraetore of Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus.
