Modern Description: Thracian city on the Via Egnatia. An episcopal see. Its walls were reconstructed after AD 550. Remains of a building with Early Christian wall-paintings near the village of Paradeisos. Remnants of a Justinian (?) fortification wall (6th century) on Kaledes hill. Ruins of an Early Christian basilica with mosaic floor at the site of Petrota. Early Christian column capitals in secondary use in a later building.
Architectural members from an Early Christian basilica and fragments of inscriptions on the site of the Muslim cemetery NW of the village of Kosmitis.
