Modern Description: E of Krenides, on the N side of the Via Egnatia and close to a spring, is the monument of the Roman official C. Vibius Quartus, popularly known as the 'Large Jar' or Dikili Tas, and also as 'Bucephalus' stall'.
A settlement of post-frame huts of the Middle Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age (6th-3rd millennium BC) was discovered at Dikili Tas. The site had been reoccupied during the Late Bronze Age (1300-1100 BC). Many movable finds were recovered -- vases with bichrome painted and incised decoration, anthropomorphic figurines and tools -- which are exhibited in the Philippi and Kavala museums.
