Modern Description: The fortified settlement southeast of Aloros (deme of Aridaia, Pella), was one of the cities of ancient Almopia (the ancient name is unclear: scholars have placed ancient Aloros further S). The city was built along the Almopaios River and controlled the plain before it. Limited excavations in 1996-2000 showed that the site was inhabited from the Late Bronze Age until the Late Roman period. Excavations revealed the city's fortifications and limited residential remains. The west enceinte was cleared of undergrowth over a length of approximately 150 metres, revealing the earlier, Hellenistic phases and a later, Late Roman, remodelling. The gate (7x7.80 metres) shows the same construction phases.
