Modern Description: Founded by the Thracian Pierians around the mid-7th century BC and mentioned by the historian Herodotus. The ancient city was located on a large hill SE of the locality of Kanoni in the village of Orfani. The finds, mainly movable, from Archaic repositories (apothetes) and Classical cremation burials in simple cist graves, are exhibited in the Kavala Archaeological Museum.
