Modern Description: A huge lion of Thasian marble on a stone platform, restored by the bridge over the Strymon river outside Amphipolis. The shattered fragments were found in the river. Greek archaeologists believe (2014) that the original site of the lion was atop the huge Hellenistic (?) tumulus of Kasta 4.3 km NNW, which has a peribolos wall clad in matching Thasian marble
