Modern Description: At Toumba Topsin (or Toumba Gefyras), on the E bank of the Axios, is a settlement with evidence of habitation from the Late Neolithic (3000 BC) to the Late Hellenistic period (1st century BC). Ancient Chalastra was perhaps situated here.
Four tumuli have been located in the vicinity, with graves from Archaic to Hellenistic times. Notable among them is a single-chamber Macedonian tomb (late 4th century BC) with well preserved wall-paintings of symposium scenes and warriors on its façade.
The finds from the graves are housed in the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum.
