Modern Description: Apollonia was a city in Mygdonia on the southern shore of lake Volvi. It was probably founded by Chalkidians in 432 BCE. In 382 it asked for help from Sparta against the Chalkidian Federation triggering the Chalkidian War. Apollonia was destroyed by Philip II. Traces of an undated city wall E of Nea Apollonia might belong to Apollonia.
