Modern Description: Buccino is situated on a medium size hill at the confluence of the Bianco and Tanagro rivers. At 600 metres it has a commanding view of both river valleys. Buccino has been rebuilt several times with both the Roman and Medieval phases. Reuse of both Roman and Lucanian era material can be seen in the modern town. Stretches of the Lucanian wall have been previously been reported at a number of areas, most notably at ‘Via Egitto’ but could not be located there in 2015. Despite its commanding position Buccino has no centres intervisible with it and is one of the rare ‘network isolates’ in the survey.
