Modern Description: The ancient promontory sanctuary of Minerva is apparently underneath the medieval tower; remains of a Roman villa, and part of a paved ancient Via Minerva leading to a 2nd c. CE military camp have been uncovered (2016/7). The site is accessible via a hike. A rock-carved Oscan inscription of the 3rd c. BCE says: M. GAAVIISM. L. PITAKIIS M
