Modern Description: Kardia was the major town of the Thracian Chersonnese. It anchored the N end of the fortification wall built to close off the isthmus between the Melas gulf and the Hellespont against hostile Thracian tribes, near the end of the 6th c. BC. When Lysimacheia was founded further inland by the Macedonian general and King of Thrace, Lysimachos (305-281 BC) , Kardia lost most of its population. Its precise location is unclear, but probably at Bakla Burnu, Turkey.
