Modern Description: Argos Orestikon in the region of Upper Macedonia, according to ancient literary tradition, was the place of origin of Macedonian kings. Orestai, the local tribe, remained autonomous untile Philip II annexed the area to Macedonia during the the 4th c. BC. During the Roman period the local cities formed the “League of the Orestai” (Koinon of the Orestai) whose seat was Argos Orestikon. The site of Armenohori was occupied until the early Byzantine period. Research of the area started in 1991 by Thanasis Papazotos.
