Modern Description: Cugno la Volta is a smaller ‘sister’ site to Difesa San Biagio. It is located on a high ridge only around 500 metres from a similar ridge ‐ with an admittedly larger plateau ‐ that contains Difesa San Biagio. Its viewshed and intervisibility with other sites in the area is almost identical with Difesa San Biagio. The presence of two towers at the site is recorded and, given the slightly closer proximity of Cugno la Volta to Difesa San Biagio, it could be reasonable to conclude that these were built in conjunction with the defence system at Difesa San Biagio. Both Cugno la Volta and Difesa San Biagio are only intervisible with one other site, Cozzo Presepe. However as Cozzo Presepe was the hub of large network of observation this would have been advantageous to both sites.
