Modern Description: Tempa dei Casaleni is a small knoll that sits near the foot of the Monte Croccia complex. Tempa dei Casaleni overlooks one of the main access points to Monte Croccia and is situated about a kilometre north‐west of the summit of Monte Croccia at about 950 meters. It is intervisible with a large number of other contemporary sites, all within the Monte Croccia visibility network. It also contributes to the surveillance of a small stretch of the Basento river not covered by the other members of this control network (Serra Del Cedro, Albano di Lucania & Monte Croccia). Evidence of the circuit wall reported by Di Cicco and La Cava was hard to find. However during surveillance on the ground, traces of suitable looking rough worked polygonal stones that seemed to be in a uniform position were located. It was decided to use just two observer points, one at the highest section of the site and one at the possible wall line identified.
