Modern Description: Platola is a site high in the ‘Parco Regionale Gallipoli Cognato’ (1032m) identified by Lacava in the late 19th Century. It sits within a region with one of the highest densities of Lucanian era fortified sites in the study area. It is close to ‘Tempa Del Monte’ another site identified by Lacava around the same time. Little is known about either and there is no modern literature giving any sort of information about either site. Lacava describes Platola as smaller than Tempa Del Monte and having a wall line composed of the natural line of the mountain ridge reinforced by polygonal material. On inspection, no trace of this wall could be found and the general area was recorded only. A single observer point was recorded the highest point on the site. Although it is intervisible with a high number of sites it would seem to have little involvement with any of the surrounding control networks as it has limited views over any of the major transport routes in the area.
