Modern Description: The modern town of Albano di Lucania is situated on a high hill overlooking the Basento valley at the confluence of the Camastra river. It has a commanding view of nearly 20km of the Basento Valley. Albano di Lucania is intervisible with a large number of contemporary sites (9 in total) and must have a played an important role in the control of this stretch of the Basento Valley that ‐ ultimately ‐ leads to Serra di Vaglio. In fact with addition of just one other centre ‐ Serra del Cedro, a site intervisible with Albano di Lucania ‐ over 40 km of the Basento valley is covered. The fortification wall is now not visible, presumably buried under the modern town. In 1891 Lacava described the blocks that made up the structure as: costituita da grossissimi massi di pietre informi, segmentazione naturale della roccia del luogo, che è un'arenaria piuttosto compatta. However following De Gennaro and the description offered by Lacava in the 19th century much of the wall line can presumably be followed in the natural topography of the modern site.
