Modern Description: Calabri is an area at the northern end of the Diano valley near that is close to modern day Caggiano. Contrada Calabri itself is situated near the confluence of the Melandro and Bianco rivers. It has good views over the pass that leads to the entrance of the Diano valley in one direction and to the east looks over a route to inner Lucania through the Platano river. There is reportedly a small stretch of rough polygonal wall extant ‐ some twenty metres or so ‐ however this section could not be located with any certainty. D’Henry states that a much better preserved section of wall still stood at the at the turn of the 19th century and had a good view of the valley, but has since disappeared. Fortunately an image of this section had been preserved by Carruci. However its position is now hard to determine. An indicative location only is presented. After analysing the viewshed it would seem that Calabri is not intervisible with any other contemporary centres but would appears to have an important position of visual control at the top of the entrance to the Diano valley. The inability to accurately locate the site of the wall‐line with precision may be affording an inaccurate picture of the network position of this centre.
