Modern Description: Brienza is situated in the Melandro valley on the Pergola river and is intervisible with only one other site, Satriano. There is some evidence for it being a fortified centre. According to Holloway he observed “similar blocks (to Satriano & Baragiano) in the tower of the church of Santo Zaccharia’. Upon inspection there seemed to be little similarity in those found in the structure with the denomination 'Church of Santo Zaccharia' today at Brienza. Capano states that there were reused isodomic blocks in a structure located in the ‘medieval wood’ that surrounds the ruins of the castle which dominates the hill at the highest point of Brienza, however this could not be found. A single observer point was taken from the middle of the Medieval castle.
