Modern Description: Castello Seluci is a site found at the top of high and very prominent hill along the southern bank of the upper Sinni valley. It ‐ along with Colle dei Greci, which it is intervisible with ‐ control a passage that leads in one direction to the northern end of the Sinni valley and in the other to the west through a second mountain pass to Serra La Citta through the ‘Valle de Noce’. The extant Lucanian era fortification is extremely small, with De Gennaro estimating the enclosed area at 0.1 hectares. None the less there are commanding views of the Sinni valley in all directions and the Lucanian era fortified structure should probably thought of as more of a ‘observation’ post or Fluchtbürge than a permanently occupied settlement. Bottini calls it ‘un punto di avvistamento e segnalazione’ (Bottini ‐ 2003 p.269).
