Modern Description: Serra La Citta is a site found in Western Basilicata situated on a small hill overlooking the Noce valley. Its located approximately 9 kilometres inland from the Tyrrhenian coastline along the Golfo de Policastro. The site has been excavated extensively and a number of stretches of the surrounding Lucanian fortification walls were exposed. It is only intervisible with one other known fortified site, Prastioli. Prastioli (also solely intervisible with Serra La Citta) seems likely to have played an observational or ‘lookout’ role for Serra La Citta and perhaps also had some connection with regulating the Lucanian Sanctuary ‘Rivello’ some 500 metres across the Fiumara Noce which it overlooks.
