Modern Description: Off the east shore of the bay, 1 km north of Moudros, is Koukonisi attached by a causeway across the shallow waters. The low islet – much frequented today by curlews – has the remains of a prehistoric settlement (currently covered) of the Early and Middle Bronze Age, where important finds have been made pointing to Lemnos's significance in the context of Mycenaean trade and expansion. It is situated at the highest point towards the northern end of the islet.
