Modern Description: On flat sandy Cape Poseidi, W of Kalandra, is a sanctuary of Poseidon, perhaps founded by Eretrian seafarers. The traces of four cult buildings, either abutting or overlying each other due to lack of space, have been uncovered. The earliest is apsidal building Óô (Sigma-tau, 11th century BC). This is followed by apsidal building à (Gamma, late 7th - early 6th century BC), inside which many objects dedicated by mariners to Poseidon were found. The third structure chronologically is apsidal building Å (Epsilon, late 6th-early 5th century BC), while last is rectangular building Á (Alpha, mid-5th century BC). All the buildings have survived only to the height of the foundations. The finds are housed in the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum.
