Modern Description: A cave sanctuary somewhere on the NE facing ridge of Mt. Karaplas about 3.9 km SW of Pharsala, a steep climb from the plain. Two rock-cut inscriptions of the 5th and 4th c. BC attest worship of Pan, the nymphs, and various other gods. Primo Levi of the Italian Archaeological School excavated here in 1922 and found a wide range of votive objects.
