Modern Description: A ladle-shaped port in S Epeiros which Octavian occupied before the battle of Actium (Plut. Ant. 62). The vicinity has yielded a Mycenaean tholos tomb and later tombs, and there are remains of ancient walls in the foundations of the Turkish fort. (N.G.L. HAMMOND)
