Modern Description: Founded by the Despots of Epiros, probably by Michael II Angelos Komnenos, the second most important of their monasteries after that of Arta . Has wall painting commemorating Nikephorus I (1269-1296) with wife and children. The katholikon, ruined by an earthquake after 1400, was excavated 1971- 2004 by Pan. Bokotopoulos of the Archaeological Society; who found early carved ornamentation. The column capitals are from a more ancient monument somewhere nearby.
