Modern Description: On the seaward side of the Preveza peninsula. There are indications of an acropolis, some tombs and architectural remains, and a sheltered anchorage. The city was founded by Pyrrhos and named after his mother-in-law (Plut. Pyrrh. 6). It is possible that the city stood instead on the E side of the peninsula at Mikhalitsi, where some rich burials from the 5th c. B.C. onwards have been excavated. (N.G.L. HAMMOND)
