Modern Description: The important coastal passage at Menidi had been protected in antiquity by two forts at the localities Agrilies and Paliokoulia. The former, north of Menidi, comprised two circular towers connected by a double wall. The latter, at Paliokoulia on top of Mt. Makrynoros seems to have been larger and stronger; it had the form of a small acropolis with five towers, connected with a large tower to its south. This site can be associated with the ancient city Idomenai.
