Modern Description: Victory monument of Octavius Caesar facing the site of the sea battle at Actium, where he defeated the fleet of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. The niches were different sizes, designed to hold 35 ship's rams, some of them enormous, a tithe from the captured fleet. This was a trophy dedicated to Apollo, Ares and Poseidon on the site of his camp. Organized archaeological site, recently reexcavated.
