Modern Description: The ancient Acarnanian town Krenai has been identified on Paliavli hill, ca. 5 km north of Amphilochia, very close to the sea. The site was probably a military installation which later developed into as small town. The fortification of the town as well as ruins of public buildings and private houses can be seen on the oval-shaped hill. The fortification is badly preserved, mainly because of the hasty nature of its construction. The peribolos is ca. 660m. long and had been -rather loosely - built with limestone blocks of varying size and shape.
