Modern Description: The site of the ancient city has been identified at a small hill northeast of Amphilochia, near Ambelaki village. According to Thucydides, Amphilochian Argos was the most important city of Amphilochia.
Ruins of the city's fortification have been preserved on the site, comprising four large square towers; the wall of the northern side are the best preserved, while the other sides are destroyed to a much greater extend. Various buildings, including the theatre have been located southeast of the fortification, along with parts of the city's cemeteries at its western and southeastern edges.
