Modern Description: Ancient Toryveia has been tentatively identified with the ruins north of Komboti, on Paliokastro hill (an alternative identification has been proposed with the fortified site Lykoniko, northeast of modern Palairos). Within the fortified enclosure stand ruins of houses, several circular cisterns, the agora at the centre of the city and an interesting building, identified by Heuzey as an arsenal. Its fortification, one of the largest in northwest Acarnania was 2.5km. long and dates to the 5th cent. B.C. The acropolis occupies the southwestern part of the fortification. Three towers and five gates were incorporated in the plan.
