Modern Description: Capital of Opuntian Locris. Inside the town of Atalanti parts of a defensive wall (4th-3rd century BC) and a cistern have been excavated, as well as a Roman building from which various sculptures and a base inscribed with the names of Zeus Patroos and Zeus Soter were recovered (in the Lamia Museum). The acropolis was probably located at the site of Palaiopyrgos, where there are ruins of a Medieval tower.
The outport of Opus, Cynus, is located on the shore of the village of Livanates. On the coastal Pyrgos hill parts of the settlement's fortification, with towers and sites of gateways around a Medieval tower, are preserved.
