Modern Description: A rocky citadel that was fortified and inhabited in the Mycenaean period (1300 BC until its destruction by conflagration c. 1230 BC). Epicentre of the drainage works conducted by the Mycenaeans in Lake Copais. Cyclopean walls 2 km long with four gateways protected a large building with wall-paintings, which was the place from where works were supervised and where grain was stored.
