Modern Description: West of the hill with the two Byz. churches, the Swiss Archaeological Institute has uncovered (2007-15) the foundations of a Hellenistic stoa built over a Classical oikos. They believe the stoa formed the E wall of the sanctuary of Artemis Amarysia, patron goddess of Amarynthos, a town mentioned in Mycenaean linear B tablets along with Karystos.
