Modern Description: The site is closed (Jan. 2019). Northeast of modern Makyneia, near Antirrio, on the hill called Kato Mammakou, stand the ruins of ancient Makyneia. The top of the hill had been fortified by a wall built with rectangular blocks and reinforced with eight towers. Within the acropolis ruins can be seen, probably belonging to military installations or other auxiliary buildings. Public buildings have been preserved on the eastern slope of the hill, outside the fortification, where the city's theatre has also come to light, along with the ruins of an unidentified small temple (measuring 17.20 Χ 5.80m.).
This is a small theatre, excavated in 1988-89 at the northeastern side of the acropolis. It is made up of 14 rows of seats without stairs and has a bow-shaped orchestra. The scene must have collapsed in the steep slope. The theatre was probably used as a bouleuterion as well.
