Modern Description: Ruins of the fortification of ancient Alikyrna have been identified at a hill called Hilia Spitia ('one thousand houses'), at a distance of 4.5km. from Kalydon and 7.5km. from Pleuron. The fortification has been preserved in a rather bad condition, is oval in plan, with no visible signs of gates or towers. Scanty remains of a large building and a retaining wall can be seen on top of the hill, at the centre of the enclosure. The ancient city spread towards the plain to the south/southwest, as proved by the discovery of part of its wall in rescue excavation. Cemeteries and burial periboloi have also come to light around the city, as well as the Roman bath complex of Agios Thomas, which is the most characteristic of all monuments in the region.
