Modern Description: The Roman bridge is located at the northern entrance of Patra, by the modern road to Athens. A monument of the 4th cent. A.D., the bridge was part of the road leading to Aigion. The river the bridge spanned was Kallinaos, as documented in an inscription found beneath the bridge's foundation. The bridge is a characteristic Roman technical work, unique in the area of Achaia. The double arched bridge was built in place of an earlier one, partly preserved beneath the Roman structure. Archaia Mesatis, Petropoulos
