Modern Description: The cave of Pan is located 3 km NE of the village of Marathon. It was the home of a small group of farmers in the Late and Final Neolithic periods (5300-3200 BC). It was used as a dwelling during the Bronze Age too (3rd millennium BC), as well as for burials.
The finds from historical times indicate the worship of Pan, the Nymphs, the Muses, the Graces and Apollo here (6th-2nd century BC), as well as its use by Christians.
