Modern Description: The cities of Colophon and Notion founded a renowned sanctuary-oracle of Apollo, which is linked to Notion by a sacred way 2 km long. Building of the peripteral temple in the Doric order began in the late 4th century BC, but was completed during the reign of Hadrian (AD 117-138). Fragments of the cult statues of Apollo, Artemis and Leto can be seen in situ in the cella. Further S is a second temple, dedicated to Artemis, and altars of various other deities. The finds, among them the temple's sculpted decoration, are housed in the İzmır Archaeological Museum.
