Modern Description: Unfinished marble sarcophagus with 3rd c. reburial, just above cinder track above the marble Panathenaic Stadium. Beside it an inscription to the "Marathonian Hero." On the summit above is a Roman mortar-rubble platform, thought to be the funerary monument of Herodes Atticus. Access is by the gate of the Track Club on Archimidous St., or ask a dog-walker when the gate is locked.
