Modern Description: Sacred Gate: a gate of the Themistoclean Wall located south of the Dipylon in Kerameikos. It included the passage of river Eridanos and the Sacred Way (Iera Odos), the processional way that led to Eleusis. This part of the Themistoclean wall was the most vulnerable. It was here that Sulla in 86 BC breached the walls of Athens.
