Modern Description: Only wall paintings survive on the façade of the Library of Hadrian from the small 12th c. church, that served as a burial chapel for the Chalkokondyle family. Dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel. It received its name ("on the stairs") because it was built on the stepped propylon of the Library. Still standing in 1831.
