Modern Description: Crude late 19th c. church in a garden courtyard, fenced/locked, at Evripidou 70, Athens. Protruding from the roof is a ancient monolithic Corinthian column, very likely a free-standing votive rather than part of a building, long known as the pillar of St. John. Possibly associated with a sanctuary of Asklepios, or with the healer hero Toxares. The pious still tie silk ribbons to the column to bind their diseases. Across the street was found a 5th c. CE mosaic, now in the Byzantine Museum. To the north was found a dedication to Apollo, IG II² 3002.
