Modern Description: On a high saddle, ca. 1370m on the ridge of a mountain called Gremoulias 4 km ESE of Kalavrita, the almost complete substructure of a Late Classical Doric peripteral temple built of poros, with an EW ground plan of 14 × 35 m has been excavated since 2003 in a cooperation between the Austrian Archaeological Institute and the 6th Ephoria of Classical Antiquities. This is the first temple of its type known from this region. About 10 m east of the temple is a rectangular altar built using Doric column shafts and capitals of crystalline limestone, which can be assigned to an older, Late Archaic Doric predecessor with high quality marble roof elements. Votive finds in the area of the altar and cella include many spear points of bronze and iron and suggest a Late Geometric cult, possibly of Artemis. No ancient writer mentions the site, which would be on an ancient route from Kalavrita/Kynaitha to the coast. It sits on land belonging to a local monastery of Agii Theodori. Though some architectural blocks remain visible, the excavation trenches have been backfilled. (http://www.oeai.at/index.php/319.html)
