Modern Description: Excavated by ASCSA, Carl Blegen (1923) and Rodney Young (1939) in and around a deep hollow in the rock about 700 m N of the tallest summit, a dense deposit of sherds from Geometric to Archaic cups, some with Zeus graffiti, seem to confirm the identification of a rough stone altar as that of Zeus, presumably Ombrios, though grafitti mention Zeus Semeios and Herakles. The altar and another rough stone construction 30 m N of it were destroyed during road building. The site is outside the fenced military zone, but photography is prohibited. There is a padlocked cave mouth in the hollow, evidently not visible in 1975.
