Modern Description: The 11-12th c. church of the Eisodeia Theotokou of Trachones is one of the oldest surviving Byzantine churches S of Athens. It is open Saturday mornings before 12:00 and the first and third Thursday of each month before 11:00 am, accessible from the Ancient Theatre street. The church is part of an Ottoman ciftlik that mysteriously became the estate of the Geroulanos family in the 20th century. It now belongs to a supermarket chain that keeps the area fenced and guarded. The presence of abundant Bronze Age, Geometric, and later antiquities on the site, probably the nucleus of ancient Euonymon deme, established in various rescue excavations, has blocked commercial development, despite the best efforts of politicians (see http://isodiatrachones.blogspot.gr/p/blog-page_7395.html).
