Modern Description: A cemetery of Mycenaean chamber tombs (1500-1100 BC) and SubMycenaean burials (1100-1050 BC).
Phaleron was the earliest port of Athens, prior to Piraeus. It was from here that the Athenian fleet, led by Menestheus, set sail for Troy, and Theseus' vessel departed on the voyage to Crete. For the city's protection Kimon built the Phalerian wall, parallel to the Long Walls that united Piraeus with Athens. Many graves from the ancient deme of Phaleron have been excavated in the area of the Faliron Delta and the Race Track.
