Modern Description: In historical times the two commercial harbours of Corinth, Lechaeum on the Corinthian Gulf and Cenchreae on the Saronic, were linked to each other by a paved way, the Diolkos, along which ships and cargoes were transported overland on wheels (a section of it is preserved today).
