Modern Description: On a remote shore above an excellent swimming cove, the church (signposted, unlocked 2021, with information panel) stands among collapsed cells of the monastery. Its claim to fame is that Patriarch Nifon II was a monk here early in his religious career. The monastery was abandoned due to pirates etc. The old monastery gate reuses a substantial marble block from a monument, and ancient threshold blocks lie just outside.
