Member of the Calaurian Amphictyony in the 8th century BC. A naval power that was destroyed in the 7th century BC by Argos, which succeeded it in the amphictyony. A polygonal wall built by the Argeians c. 300 BC is preserved today beneath the Medieval fortification, on the W side of Acronauplia (Akronafplia), where there are also remains of Hellenistic houses.
